Process design, camera, water resistant Xperia Z3

A team of engineers who have been engaged in the development and Z3 Z3 Compact Xperia Sony recently had a conversation with NDTV Gadget page. They’ve shared a lot of interesting information in the design of this two phone models, the difficulties they face as well as the technological advances of Sony. In addition, 4 engineers also talk about clusters on Z3 camera, how thin they do go well water resistance that Sony integrates boarding.
These engineers are present in the discussions, including:
Yoshikazu Sakamoto, head of project management
Hiroshi Takano, division vice president of research at Tokyo
Shimpei Yamaguchi, mechanical engineer – Parts ideas and new technologies designed
Yasutaka Kashiwagi, design engineers band
Sakamoto begins by sharing that entire design team should Xperia Z3 has about 300 people. Particularly, he worked for Sony than 10 years. Meanwhile, Takano is a very picky person and he carefully revised the details of his colleagues say incorrect or unclear during the conversation. Takano themselves are experts in camera technology.
He talked about the Xperia Z3 camera as follows: “We could have used more expertise from more Cybershot group (compared to the previous generation Xperia). One of the greatest benefits from the parent company Sony, which is software. A beautiful picture is a combination of good hardware and good software. ”
Sakamoto said, adding that the shooting mode that Sony built for the user as well as a simple measure to help anyone can give better pictures. “We have Auto mode, and then we Superior Auto. In Superior Auto, the camera analyzes the scene, then the software will determine if you are taking any type of image, “Takano said. And yet, the software identifies the object that owns Xperia Z3 will then refine the image parameters, such as the level of exposure, focus, color settings …

However, Takano also said that there is still limited in the way of Sony – that is if you choose Superior Auto, you will not have much control with your photos, and when you switch to other modes you will have many more tools to tweak. But most of the regimes that are just variations of automatic shooting modes, and “this is the main difference between the shot with a camera to capture real compared with smartphone”.
Then Takano told reporters see clusters of Xperia Z3 camera compared to Xperia Z1. Accordingly, Sony has made the device thinning 0,7mm only by producing a camera module thinner than previous generations despite 20 megapixel resolution is maintained.
When asked that how it affects performance camera, Takano admit that Sony has to sacrifice something (but clearly there is no quality or not), and that a larger camera clusters can resulting in better image quality. Team of engineers did not answer questions about the comparison with the iPhone camera, instead Sakamoto said that “we are constantly urging them (the camera team) to minimize camera clusters without sacrificing the quality. The results are amazing, and our camera was located flush with the body. ”
Yamaguchi, the mechanical engineer, adding that thinning camera work is very important for the design of Xperia Z3 Z3 and Sony Compact because it allows two devices become more beautiful, slimmer. “In the past, large clusters camera, so we put it next to the screen. It is almost as thick as all the phone. Now, that phrase was much smaller, and we were able to clamp it between the screen casing, which saves space and makes the phone smaller without sacrificing on quality. ”
Yamaguchi is the best babysitter in the number of engineers, and he constantly looked at the SmartBand Talk is worn on the hand because they will be on the plane after the meeting ended. But before leaving, they also bring up a detailed look at the Sony Xperia Z3 Z3 and the Compact.
Yamaguchi said that making the phone is resistant to water is not too difficult, and no worsening of product design. And according to the standard waterproof Sakamoto – dustproof IP65 / 68 is one of the things that makes Xperia Z3 become the most expensive phone ever produced by the company. “We have to check everything to make sure it really waterproof and dust. We must strengthen checks every model before selling them, “Sakamoto said.

More about this testing process, Yamaguchi said: “We have a test method special attraction to confirm that the phone does not really water. There are a few special hole, the hole that you can hardly see it, like a net that. ” This grid is designed for air to pass through, but not water, and when testing the water without a phone that is not in the water when it is immersed in a large water tank.
Waterproof Technology on Xperia Z3 is what Sony achieved important progress. Yamaguchi told reporters saw a plastic sheet is attached around the Z-Series line of them. This class has closed the phone and protect it from water. Yamaguchi revealed that Sony has used laser technology to put this plastic layer inside the machine, but before then it does not work like that. “Laser presses using two separate components (resin and shell) together”. Also laser also works to remove excess material layer so Sony was able to reduce the size of the stroke device.
So the upcoming Sony will do what? Does the miniaturization of components may continue or not, and whether they will affect how the design of the phone? Sakamoto said the senior models of Sony probably will not soon change in design. “We always observed, and will upgrade the design as needed,” he said, “but we also do not want to abandon their characteristics.” He then design language that Sony Omnibalance which is applied to the Xperia will survive for a while longer.

Besides, Yamaguchi said his company is still constantly researching new materials and tested to see how things can be used to manufacture the device. “We do not greatly affect the basic design, because consumers want a larger screen while the device itself must be as small as possible. With the new material, we can make a few changes to the way you perceive your phone. “
